Gateway to the West Sertoma sponsors programs that provide goods, services, or funds to various organizations. Below is a list of such organizations that were sponsored in the past, present or planned for the future: ·
The SHARP Program was sponsored by Sertoma International Foundation to
provide and repair and distribution of used hearing aids to those in need.
Selected members collected used equipment, and delivered it to Central
Institute for the Deaf. Gateway To The West funds the repairs and
distribution. We participated in the program for a number of years. We
discontinued support at that time and have no plans for future support. · Gateway To The West Sertoma made minor contributions to Central Institute for the Deaf from for a number of years. Most of the sponsored programs were connected with signing. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West made annual contributions to Operation Food Search for several years. Operation Food Search is a major food panty that distributes food to the families they have underwritten within their guidelines. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma sponsored a raffle for Our Little Haven (Home for chemically dependent & Aids babies) . Individual members also donated their time to work at the disposal of the Haven staff. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma made donations to Judevine Center from for several years. The Center's mission is to assist children afflicted with autism. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West made a one time donation. The Back Stoppers financially assist the families of departed fire and police officers who died in the line of duty. The assistance is open ended. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided Sponsorship to the Special Olympics from for several years. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma assisted Project Cope on one occasion. Project COPE provides community re-entry support for selected ex-offenders through faith-based team partnerships and transitional housing. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. ·
Gateway To The West Sertoma provided financial assistance to The Employment
Connection numerous times with one time amounts for new computers and
annual program amounts in subsequent years. The Employment Connection
mission was to find jobs for parolees after teaching interviewing skills.
We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided financial support for The National Head Injury Foundation for several years. The purpose of the program is to care for and to assist those with acquired brain injury and their families. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships.
· Gateway To The West Sertoma provided donations to various requests from the St. Louis Veterans Home, Hospitals and . The requested were for specialized 25 TV monitors for the quadriplegics, a handicapped equipped van, various programming requests for clothing and shoes. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided support in several years for Child Haven. Childhaven is a childcare and research center that works to break the cycle of abuse and neglect by helping families in crisis. The center focuses on children birth to 5 years old and their families. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship in several years for the fireworks fund of the South County Fair. The South County Fair is sponsored by the Lemay Chamber of Commerce and various non-for-profit and civic organizations within the south county area. The fair is a Friday though Sunday happening of contests, food, entertainment and other activities for the adults and children of south county St. Louis. The venue is Jefferson Barracks Park. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a capital funding for Stray Rescue of St. Louis' second location. Stray Rescue's sole purpose is to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships, the capital funding was a one time event. ·
Gateway To The West Sertoma provided several donations for general funding
requests. Sunshine Ministries was founded in 1903 as a soup kitchen and
homeless shelter. Today the ministry continues to offer shelter to the
homeless men on the streets of St. Louis. Services now include rehabilitation
and transitional programs for men as well as an outreach to the women
and youth in our inner-city neighborhood. We have plans for to continue
support in the current and in future years. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided one time capital funding for The Mary Culver Home for Blind Women to replace a collapsed sewer pipe. The Mary Culver Home provides residential care services in a skilled nursing care facility for 28 blind women. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships, the capital funding was a one time event. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided one time capital funding for Feed My People to replace a food freezer. Regular annual donations have occurred for replenishing their food panty for normal distribution. Feed My People is an interdenominational organization which assists over 100,000 citizens in south county with food, thrift store availability, financial aid, and various counseling programs. Current and future plans project for support to continue. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided one time capital funding for Five Star Senior Center to replace a food freezer. Annual donations have occurred since for general programming requirements. Five Star Senior Center provides meals, transportation and social activities for senior in the Benton Park and Benton Park West neighborhoods. Current and future plans project the annual donations to continue. ·
Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship to multiple annual golf
outings for the Independence Center for the Developmentally Disabled.
The Independence Center is committed to providing a comprehensive system
of high quality programs and services that assists adults in the St. Louis
metropolitan area with serious and persistent mental illnesses to live
and work in the community, independently and with dignity. Current and
future plans project annual donations to continue. · A Gateway To The West Sertoma provided one time sponsorship to Friends of Kids with Cancer. Additionally, sponsored a bar-b-que with the proceeds earmarked solely for the organization. Friends of Kids with Cancer performs the role of advocate for special kids with cancer and provides them and their families with the recreational, educational, and emotional support needed throughout the long hours of chemotherapy illness and isolation. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · A number of the members of Gateway To The West Sertoma are graduates of St. Mary's High School. Scholarships are administered by the facility. An education at St. Mary's prepares students for careers. Also important is to develop within the young man a deep sense of the goodness, self-worth, and the dignity of every person. The Marianist Spirit provides a comprehensive program of learning to challenge and motivate each student to reach his fullest potential. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · A Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship to Crestwood Elks in appreciation for the usage of their physical facilities to host Sertoma poker and Texas Hold-em tournaments. The Crestwood Elks is an authorized Elks Chapter which owns a building at 10261 Bauer Road, St. Louis, Mo 63129. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship to Lambda Beta Lambda Alumni Association in appreciation for guaranteeing a minimum number of workers at the Gateway To The West Sertoma weekly bingo. Lambda Beta Lambda Alumni Association is a state chartered non for profit organized exclusively for the benefit of charitable, scientific, literary, educational and fraternal purposes. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided one time sponsorship to The Bevo Area Community Improvement Association. The Association provides housing in addition to running a senior center which conducts games, bingo, dances, parties and activities to please everyone. A delicious meal is served at noon. For those who can't get out any more, home-delivered meals are provided. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time sponsorship to the Doris Davis Helping Hand. Doris Davis Helping Hand is a non for profit committed to enhancing the lives of the Greater Belleville, Illinois Area. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship to the Carondelet Community Betterment Federation by acting as a major sponsor for the South Side Washer Tournament for the last five years. CCBF is a neighborhood organization working to make Carondelet a good place for family living by working for the betterment of the total community. Goals are to: encourage the maintenance of buildings and property, welcome new business into our community, work with all organizations in Carondelet and to serve as a liason between the community and city government. Current and future plans project the donations to continue. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship to the James B. McDonnell USO for the last several years. The USO's mission is to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families worldwide and to create a cooperative relationship between U.S. military communities and involved or supporting civilian communities. Current and future plans project the donations to continue. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided sponsorship supporting various Afton Athletic Teams. Affton Athletic Association (AAA) is a non-profit organization tasked with the mission of maintaining and operating the field program for softball, baseball, soccer and hockey for area adolescent participants. Current and future plans project the donations to continue. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time sponsorship supporting the Wings of Hope. Wings of Hope implements poverty reduction strategies in designated regions of the world by partnering with the groups being served. Services are typically customized based upon needs. Health care is typically provided by small bush airplane. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. ·

League. The League operates a Veteran's Home in St. James, Mo. We funded
a request for a large screen TV and selected benches for their adjacent
park. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time donation to St. Patrick's Center's general fund. St. Patrick Center provides opportunities for self-sufficiency and dignity to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals achieve permanent, positive changes in their lives through affordable housing, sound mental health, employment and financial stability. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time donation to the Peregrine Society. In 1949 a group of caring St. Louis citizens recognized the need to establish The Peregrine Society as a community service agency for cancer patients. Activities include making cancer dressings, transporting patients to treatment centers, helping with office functions., etc. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time donation to the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sisters of St. Joseph work to cultivate relationships with God, themselves, community, Church, society, and all creation. The mission is implemented through prayer, direct service, consciousness raising, and systemic change. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. · Gateway To The West Sertoma provided a one time donation to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is committed to optimizing the quality of care the patients receive. We have no plans for current or for future sponsorships. ·
